WATCH THE THRONE Documentary

Watch the Throne Documentary follows Jay-Z and Kanye West work as they bring the album to life. The two and their camp take to Sydney, Australia for recording at a private estate. The documentary sheds light on Kanye's rise as an early fan of Jay-Z to working on a collaborative project. Jay-Z shares his views on Kanye West as not only a peer but an artist.

Although, I don't work in music, watching this documentary is absolutely motivating. Both Jay-Z and Kanye West have made names for themselves that will forever lead to becoming legends in music. It's just incredible seeing them in their creative process.

Nicolas Ghesquièr ceases to amaze me with his creativity and vision for each collection. This time, the collection had more of a ready to wear feel but still remained to be fashion forward and a bit avant-garde. Aline Weber (featured) opened the show in a beautiful piece, a braided leather bomber jacket. As always, the textures featured in every Balenciaga collection are pure genius such as braided leather, sort of knit tunic and more. Kasia Struss (featured) made her way down in another amazing leather coat that appeared to have a varsity jacket style. Following the beautiful jackets were a few tunics with beautiful paneling.

The New York Fashion Week Internship Placement Program was created by stylist, Charles Wade. Numerous resumes and applications were sent in to Charles eventually eight lucky interns were offered spots in the program. The interns will be involved in NYFW and are raising funds to bring them all to NY.

Model Crush: UPDATE

After seeing Willy walk for Givenchy F/W 11 Men's show, it was only right to present an update on my model crush.

Willy Cartier was recently in an editorial for Dazed & Confused, Tokyo Chorus, alongside models Jaco van den Hoven and Daiane Conterato. The beautiful editorial was photographed by Ben Toms and styled by Robbie Spencer.

Photographer Sylvain Homo captured Willy and model, Holly outdoors in an incredible shoot for Contributor Magazine.

Willy also made his way down the runway this current season for Jean Paul Gaultier and Givenchy.

Model Crush: Zakaria

While looking through the shows from this current men's shows, I couldn't help but notice Zakaria Khiare. I was constantly drawn to him throughout the many shows that he has already been casted for. As always, I went straight to searching for his name. Voila, Zakaria!

His very first season of Milan shows was last season (S/S 11), walking for Hermes, Paul Smith, Dior Homme, and many others.

For fall/winter 11 shows, Zakaria made his way down the runways of Milan and Paris walking for Thierry Mugler, Dior Homme, Acne, Paul Smith, Burberry, Z Zegna and many more. It's clear that Zakaria is a runway star and I'm so interested to see what more is to come from that.

Hopefully, Zakaria will have a great run during New York shows.

Men's Week: F/W 11--MILAN

Men's shows in Milan have come and now made their way to Paris. Designers sent down extraordinary collections down the runways of Milan. Yesterday marked the first day of shows with Thierry Mugler in Paris.
As always, I have selected a several of my favorite collections to feature on here but be sure to view the other collections! Also, look out for the collections from Paris.

ALEXANDER McQUEEN

Sara Burton continues to prove herself as the heir to the Alexander McQueen throne. Following a successful show during S/S womens' fashion week. This time Burton presents an incredible men's collection that makes me wish I could have every piece. Bright reds are paired with dark blues and black. Long overcoats are sent down the runway with track pants.

BOTTEGA VENETA
When viewing the entire collection's thumbnails, bright colors grab your attention. The collection consists of a series of suits, heavy coats and sweaters. This collection delivers from the textures and to the vibrant to dark color palette. I love the layering using throughout the looks as well.

JIL SANDER
As always, Raf Simons continues to captivate my interest! This fall collection consists of minimalism with bursts of bright colors, magenta, orange, yellow, lime green and so on. The vibrant colors were seen throughout the collection whether it be a full bright magenta suit or a charcoal coat with yellow peaking out. I absolutely adore this collection.

NEIL BARRETT

From the blue backdrop to the clothing, it is evident that Neil Barrett was inspired by scuba diving and naval activities. The inspiration is especially seen in the scuba leggings throughout the collection. Heavy overcoats, sweaters with impeccable detailing in blues, greys and greens were sent down the runway. I truly admire the mix of materials, proving that fall/winter clothes aren't boring or a drag.

Z ZEGNA
Where do I begin with Z Zegna...so many positive comments can be made about this collection. While reviewing the collection, I found it incredibly difficult to only select four photos to post on her, that is how great it is. The collection transitions from black clothes to camels to dark greens to grey to blues to return back to grey and black. The details throughout this collection are impeccable, the texture of the clothes are extremely fashion forward. See, there is nothing but wonderful comments to be made. I love this collection!

During New York Fashion Week S/S 11 season, Tom Ford presented a very hush, hush presentation of his return debut women's collection. There were no pictures released, no videos, no twitpics via editors, stylists and others. The only photos released that day were of the casting board which immediately led to excitement in viewers.

The Muse

It has been an eventful first season for Arizona Muse (NEXT). Arizona has been modeling for a few years now but when she cut off her long locks, you can truly see what a beauty she is. I also named her as one of my model crushes of the spring/summer 11 shows.

All eyes were on Arizona as she opened and closed the Miu Miu S/S 11 show, she was an exclusive. She then made her way down several other runways, Balenciaga, Altuzarra, Max Aziria, BCBG, Proenza Schouler, Narciso Rodriguez, Christian Dior, Celine, John Galliano, Stella McCartney, Chloe, Chanel, Louis Vuitton,Yves Saint Laurent and many more. According to tFS, she walked in 23 shows, opening 6 and closing 3 shows. Arizona was on everyone's list of fresh faces to watch and made her way to being a Top 10 Newcomer for S/S 11 shows on models.com. Not only did she have an incredible season but she made her way onto the pages of W Mag.

Arizona also landed the spring/summer 2011 campaign for Yves Saint Laurent shot by Inez & Vinoodh!

Congrats, Ms. Muse. I see great things in her future and am excited to see her werk for YSL.

Au Revoir, Carine!

Yesterday, December 17th, Carine Roitfeld announced that she will be leaving her position as editor-in-chief at Vogue Paris. Carine has been at Vogue Paris for 10 years and has become one of the most influential women in fashion. I am truly saddened by her departure but I have faith that she will leave her throne to someone who can keep Vogue Paris on the same level as she will leave it.

“It’s ten years that I’m editor of the magazine,” she told Cathy Horyn. “I think it’s time to do something different.”

Ms. Roitfeld often did the styling for photo shoots. “I had so much freedom to do everything I wanted. I think I did a good job.” But she added, “When everything is good, maybe I think it’s the time to do something else.” She expects to complete issues through March. She said she was not sure what she would do after that. “I have no plan at all,” she said.

My absolute latest obsession: NATALIA KILLS! I was flipping through the latest issue of POP Magazine and landed on an editorial featuring her, her name grabbed my interest first so I immediately went to googling her and fell in love.

Natalia has a very edgy, dark and twisted style that I absolutely love. She may be my favorite pop singer out right now, after Gaga of course. Her style is wicked and I was so excited to learn that the video for Mirrors came out. The video has such an amazing concept, exploring vanity, control, sex in the best way possible. I'm in love with this video.

You Ain't Got It

I'm a huge Nina Sky fan and I was beyond stoked when I saw that the video for You Ain't Got It dropped. Both girls have this unique and very inspiring style, I really think both are bound to have iconic styles. The girls song is from their EP The Other Side, which is a must-own so get to downloading folks!

Nina Sky take to the streets of NY for a fun and very cool video. Amazing song followed by a very cool and creative video. I love these two, I neeeeeed to see them live!

I had the opportunity of attending the Express fashion show in NYC in the Flatiron District. The show was open to the public but I was there for work and interviewed a few of the models. It was a great show, the girls looked amazing and the guys always handsome.

Many editorials try to feature rock gone glam but none truly capture the essence of that "I honestly don't care" attitude mixed with minor glam details. However, Elle Russia delivered! Anne-Marie Curties styled the beautiful Sheila Márquez in looks by Christopher Kane, D&G, Prada and plenty of other great looks. This editorial is simple yet to die for. I love the messy hair, loads of leather, crosses, denim over net looks and red lips. Oh and are those grey nails I see? Love it!

I'M BACK! Just had to let you all know that I'm returning with a million more posts. I'm so glad that many people continued to view the site during my mini hiatus.

I don't ever really get into my life in posts but I've been working on some artwork lately. Along with shooting digital photography, I shoot in film which is my first love. I've been extremely inspired and motivated to have my work seen by others and I wanted to share with you all some of the artwork that has truly inspired me to continue with my up and coming series.

Now onto the inspiration...

SWOON: I absolutely love Swoon's work, it's beyond amazing. Just search her name and look at all of the amazing pieces she creates, trust me, you'll fall in love!

BUFF DISS: I fell in love with his work during one of my daily Youtube searches, his work is amazing. Street art all with TAPE! I'm a huge fan of his work now.

CLAUDIA WEBER: I had the chance to see her work in the gallery "Let the Nouns Fool Around" and was able to talk with her about her piece. She inspired me to get into more mixed media pieces. It's overall amazing, her entire process is incredible!

The Pirelli Calendar is by far one of the most anticipated one every year. Last year models: Daisy Lowe, Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Catherine McNeil, Abbey Lee Kershaw and others were photographed by the one and only Terry Richardson.

This year, Casting Director, Jennifer Star put together an A list group of models to be shot by designer and photographer, Karl Lagerfeld. Models this time around are: Bianca Balti, Elisa Sednaoui, Freja Beha Erichsen, Isabeli Fontana, Magdalena Frackowiak, Anja Rubik, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Lakshmi Menon, Heidi Mount, Erin Wasson, Natasha Poly, Lara Stone, Daria Werbowy, Iris Strubegger, Jeneil Williams. The 5 male models are Baptiste Giabiconi, Sébastien Jondeau, Brad Kroenig, Garret Neff, and Jake Davis.

Watch the behind the scenes video here. You can watch as the models get into character for the Greek Gods and Goddesses that they portray for the calendar. It's an excellent theme, great casting and an amazing photographer.

Earlier this year it was announced that model, Liu Wen would be the new face of Estee Lauder along with Constance Jablonski. Liu is the first Chinese model to be the face of the brand. Wrapping up my top model newcomers, guys and girls.

Jessica Clarke went from being a Calvin Klein exclusive to walking down major runways for the rest of the season about 20 shows including, Lanvin, Emilio Pucci, Paul Smith and Akris.

Johnny George , while covering men's shows during NYFW I kept seeing this kid and I could totally see why he was being cast for so many shows. He has a great look and a great personality to follow.

Maddie has an undeniable star potential which explains why she has been on everyone's top newcomers list. According to tFS, Maddie walked in over 30 shows! Marc Jacobs, Trias, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Miu Miu and many more.

Zhao Lei walked for Loden Dager, Perry Ellis, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Siki Im and others. He has a great look and such an amazing personality.

Anais (honorable mention) , I featured Anais on my blog a while back completely captivated by her beauty. Well I got the chance to meet her during NYFW and she has a great walk and personality. Anais was everywhere for the NY shows but not so much for Europe. I love this girl, which is why she still is one of my favorite girls of the season.

Spring/ Summer 2011 Fashion Week (New York, London, Milan and Paris) are over. Through each week, bloggers and sites have kept their eyes out on the beauty and clothes trends and who the big newcomers were. I'll admit to being one of those, prior to NYFW I immediately fell in love with certain girls. I looked at numerous agency showcards, attended a major casting and composed a list of who I thought would be big this season. Throughout every fashion week, certain girls rose to being popular this season proving my predictions correct.

Here are my favorite newcomers from the season:

Arizona Muse: With a name like that, it's only right for you to walk down the best of the best runways and she did just that. Opening for Prada sent her into the big league, then continuing with walking the best shows that Milan and Paris had to offer.

Melodie: I remember seeing Melodie at a casting and immediately being drawn to her beauty. She has the kind of beauty to command attention in a room full of models (true story) and with a great walk to follow which is why she walked in numerous shows.

Bo Don: Though this isn't her first season, I still am amused by this beauty. Bo made her way down over 40 runways in NY, London, Milan and Paris. I truly am pleased to see that she walked for some of my favorite lines: Chanel, Balenciaga, Givenchy and many more.

Hailey Clauson: Her long blonde hair and bee stung lips is what drew me to her. She has an incredible look and casting directors seem to agree. Hailey went from being an exclusive for Calvin Klein to walking for Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Christian Dior and plenty more. Not only does she look great on the runway but her editorials are amazing too.

NYFW: Ports 1961 S/S 11

I don't know if anyone recalls a post I did years ago about where I intern but yes that is me, the photographer. I was able to cover the Ports 1961 S/S 11 Show. My photos are directly from the Runway, some greater than others but to be there was amazing.

It was my first year shooting in the pit, needless to say I learned alot!

The Ports 1961 S/S 11 show marked the departure of Tia Cibani and the debut of behind the scenes sister, Fiona, as head designer. A trip to explore the Sahara stood as the inspiration of the S/S 11 collection, that was made evident through the sandy colors. The collection transitioned from daywear to cocktail dresses all while maintaining a very fluid feel. A series of draped gowns were sent down the runway which were enlivened by the finale pieces. The meticulously embellished cream and faint blue pieces easily could symbolize a mirage in Cibani’s desert dream.

Trias S/S 11

**editors note: My apologies for the lack of posts during NYFW, don't think I have forgotten about posting. I have loads of pictures to share with you all from the many shows and castings I attended this S/S 11 season. Enjoy :)

Trias was one of the few womens shows that I attended and covered this season. Due to the designer's wish of having no photographers during first looks, I have backstage (hair and makeup) and runway photos. The collection was somewhat simple yet amazing for spring and summer, the colors were a muted version of roses, reds and creams. But the casting? The casting was amazing! Just take a peak below of some of the girls from the show.

The Outsiders

Dazed & Confused produced a video titled The Outsiders featuring a variety of models around acting as teenagers at a house party. I love the concept and how interesting the video is. The models are all drinking, smoking and hanging out. You watch how the video progresses from them all sitting around to destroying the room, throwing things, breaking items, and writing on the walls. I absolutely love it and find it fitting to a modern day teenager situation.

I instantly fell in love at the sight of actress Natalie Portman in a beautiful Rodarte ballerina design. Then to read the news of Rodarte designing the wardrobe collection for upcoming movie, Black Swan, which stars Portman lead to more excitement. Well here it is, the trailer for Black Swan. The film is a psychological dance drama with a terrific cast: Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, and Barbara Hershey.

The film is expected to hit theaters later this year, I cannot wait!

Kanye West - Power

The return of Kanye West was a long but patient wait and Ye came back proving to fans that he was truly back. The first single Power gained the attention of the mass and people were then sure that Kanye was going to deliver better than ever. The first performance of the song was made during the 2010 BET Awards. Now, the video has been released. Unlike anything else, he labels the masterpiece as a moving painting. Ye reached out to the brilliant Marco Brambilla to direct the portrait.

"And then specifically with the single 'Power,' I've always wanted to do something that would visualize power, to do a portrait of what power would look like in a sort of timeless way and being able to have him framed in that portrait — essentially doing a video portrait of Kanye as a symbol of power was very consistent with my art practice and what I explore in my artwork." - Brambilla

Crystal Renn

Plus size model, Crystal Renn has truly been an inspiration and a model to admire. After battling anorexia, Renn used her experience in the modeling industry as the focus of her book, Hungry. The best-selling book addressed many issues about health in the industry. Crystal was photographed by Nicholas Routzen for nonprofit Fashion for Passion however after major editing, it was unsure of whether the body in the pictures was that of Crystal's.

Crystal responded to the editing by making a statement to Glamour magazine saying :

Well, I was shocked. When I saw the pictures, I think I was silent for a good five minutes, staring with my mouth open. I don’t know what was done to those photos or who did it, but they look retouched to me. And listen, everybody retouches, but don’t make me into something I’m not.

[Reached for comment, photographer Nicholas Routzen explained that Crystal looks the way she does because the photos were “…taken from a higher angle with a wider lens.” But he also added, “I shaped her…I did nothing that I wouldn’t do to anyone. I’m paid to make women look beautiful.”]

She went on to say...

...well, that body doesn’t look like my body. It doesn’t. Having had an eating disorder, I know what that very thin body looks like on me, and it's not something I find attractive. It's not something I aspire to.

I feel completely confident in my own health because I know I don't look like that, but even to see it in an image was really disturbing to me.

I am so glad to see Crystal respond to the matter with such inspiring words. Falling in love with Crystal's ambition and vulnerability is inevitable and I only wish that photographers and editors will do such. I found the editing ridiculous, especially due to her history in this industry. Thanks Crystal!

"I'm fascinated by Kenneth Anger's use of color and his ability to transform a film into a three-dimensional texture, a fabric of images in movement," explained Angela Missoni. Who better to compose the campaign than Anger himself. "Kenneth Anger's experimental approach and his narrative style, on the other hand, transformed the new campaign into a sublimation of our world."

The video is without a doubt creative and extremely beautiful. I love it!

Major Lazer x La Roux - Lazer Proof

Since the mixtape dropped I have kept it on repeat, it's an incredible tape and perfect for summer. Tracks consist a mash up of my favorite songs ie. La Roux - Pain over the Drake - Houstlantavegas beat. As soon as the mixtape was released, I had it on repeat nonstop. It's great summer music!

The fall Haute Couture shows have started and designers have sent out only the best. From Givenchy's beautiful and meticulous gowns to Dior's elegant and luxurious gowns.

Givenchy This collection is absolutely flawless, just stunning. The detailing of each piece is phenomenal!

Christian Dior: I absolutely love this collection, from Ms. Karlie Kloss opening in a extravagant purple look. The collection truly brought nature alive! Each piece looking like a member to the perfect Dior bouquet.

Chanel: A divine tailored and beautifully embroidered collection. I love the transition from piece to piece and the diversity of the collection.

The Dream Love King [album review]

Billboard.com gave viewers the opportunity to preview The Dream's junior album in it's entirety prior to its release[Today, June 29th] Sticking to a powerful theme of Love, the album is titled Love King. The Dream's first album, Love/Hate and his sophomore album was titled Love vs. Money. The first single off the album "Love King" an upbeat tune was shortly followed by "Make up Bag" which features rapper T.I. Both singles were accompanied with creative videos. The album stays true to The Dream's creative and unique sound with amazing production and catchy lyrics. Love King features a variety of love ballads from pure sexual to a strong attraction to the woman as well as the tragic heart broken songs. The album follows the fluid transition from song to song that was heard on Love vs. Money

Mr. West performed at the 2010 B.E.T. Awards June 27th. Kanye opened the awards show with his latest single titled Power.

While people rocked along to the rapper a great approval and question of what chain is Kanye rocking was proposed.

The answer, Kanye West performed wearing a Horace chain which is also featured on his new blog. Ye took the chain game to a new level with the large and very artistic piece.

Back to back covers and features have followed the return of M.I.A. The return was made loud and clear with a controversial, creative and always unique song titled Born Free and its video. The single is without doubt my favorite song out. Her new album is titled /\/\/\Y/\ (a.k.a. MAYA) which is set to release next month.

M.I.A. snagged the covers of Nylon, Complex, Dazed&Confused and Fader Magazine.

Milan Men's Shows - Spring 2011

It's that time again for men's shows and to summarize the week, I've picked my favorites to discuss.

Jil Sander takes it up a notch with a color palette of brights uniquely mixed with darks. Navy suits to bright yellow pants, short sleeved button up shirts, vibrant graphics and shorts. The collection is incredible!

Alexander McQueen Sarah Burton is truly keeping the great McQueen creativity alive with the Spring 2011 collection. The show's title is Pomp and Circumstance and you can truly see the theme portrayed in the show. I love the modern take on such vintage styles for this collection. The double breasted vests to the classic tuxedo style coats.

Pringle of Scotland Despite a short collection, it is truly one of my favorites. An amazing color palette of a blues, cream, khaki and olive green. I absolutely love this collection.

It's always better to watch the show rather than looking at a bunch of photographs so here are some of my favorite shows continued.

Dolce & Gabbana - As always Dolce & Gabbana deliver a strong and fluid collection. Their creativity and unique production of the show always sets it apart from the rest. The lovely Annie Lennon performed throughout the show while playing the piano while the men walked out in some of the best pieces for spring.

The Hawaiian beauty Keke Lindgard was shot by photographers, Claudia Knoepfel and Stefan Indlekofer for a recent spread in Vogue Germany. Vogue De takes to a skatepark to shoot Keke surrounded by a young group of skaters. Styled by Nicola Knels, Keke is seen in pieces from Givenchy, Versace, Prada and many more.

What I love most about the shoot is that Keke is not a stranger to a board and Models.com caught her skating at the end of NYFW.

The 22 year old french model was reportedly found dead one day before Milan Mens shows. The unfortunate news of Tim's death is truly saddening and touching.

My condolences to the Nicon family.

Congratulations Sarah Burton on being named Creative Director of Alexander McQueen!

After the lost of one fashion's most prized designers, Alexander McQueen many questions were formed. One of which, "Who will be named Creative Director?". Predictions were made that designer, Gareth Pugh would be next to reign but the title was given to Burton.

Sarah Burton joined the McQueen team in 1996 and has been apart of the team since. Burton has gone from being McQueen's second in command to being first. Congrats! I'm extremely excited for Burton's future creations.
